Maximise my socio-environmental impact by empowering change makers to build a better tomorrow, while minimising the negative impact of my operations today.
dARTa track scope 1 and 2 (and where possible, scope 3) carbon emissions each financial year, and offset these through Carbon Positive Australia. At least twice as much carbon is offset to account for untracked scope 3 emissions, and to ensure that the business goes beyond carbon neutral.
Having been involved in research on the future impact of climate change on the West Australia environment, Carbon Positive Australia was chosen to ensure that my offsets support local initiatives restoring our much degraded, but much loved native landscape.
Every project I collaborate on can be tied back to one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that the work I do is leading to a better tomorrow. Below are some of the challenges I have been involved in tackling.
Target 3.8: Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all.
Target 4.a: Build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all.
Target 9.4: By 2030, upgrade infrastructure and retrofit industries to make them sustainable, with increased resource-use efficiency and greater adoption of clean and environmentally sound technologies and industrial processes.
Target 12.2: By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.
Target 12.5: By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.
Target 12.6: Encourage companies, especially large and transnational companies, to adopt sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability information into their reporting cycle.
Target 14.1: By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities.
Jason's mastery of complex data modelling and business intelligence has propelled our analytics capabilities to new heights, allowing us to gain deeper insights and make more informed decisions. He has also taken a proactive role in mentoring staff which has not only empowered our team members but has also significantly elevated the quality of our reports and analyses. His dedication to our cause and innovative solutions have been invaluable.
Working with Jason has been transformative to the operation of our Aboriginal ear health services. He's helped us level up our data capture and management, and created a dashboard that provides all the metrics we needed for our reporting. This has allowed us to focus more on the actual operations of our clinics and services, rather than wasting time in excel. His expertise has been invaluable.
Having Jason as part of the team has enabled us to innovate in how we collect and process data from our survey sites. He transformed our idea of automated species identification using submerged camera traps into reality with a combination of Python, image recognition AI, and PowerBI. It was a pleasure working with him.
Jason has been a tremendous asset to the University and has helped us make significant strides towards our sustainability goals by unlocking the potential of our data. His work on UWA's sustainability dashboard and load forecasting has exciting implications for our operations, teaching and research.
Through working with Jason, we were able to develop and implement a crisp new dashboard report that was far easier to read than what we had produced, and was way less effort to publish! This has enabled our Project Officer to more efficiently complete this monthly task and has greatly increased the impact of our project for our industry partners.
Jason was crucial in implementing many of the architectural designs and pipelines to fast track our very new data and analytics capability. What I enjoyed about working with Jason is his combination of technical fluency, drive to help others truly succeed with data, and ability to explain complex topics in a simplified manner.
