Dr Jason Hamer was formally trained as an environmental scientist (PhD), and it was here that he developed both his passion for the environment as well as his enthusiasm for data. Preferring to sit in front of a computer than do field work, he soon found a niche - statistics, artificial intelligence and data visualisation.
This niche lead Jason down the path of Business Intelligence. Yet he never lost track of his passion for the environment, and the joy that comes from making a difference. With bigger plans in mind, he developed a skillset that spanned the whole data lifecycle.
It's on these skills, and his values, that Jason started dARTa. Jason is driven to make a positive impact on our environment and in our community, and it's through dARTa that he is able to work with change-makers in generating this impact.
Jason has over 10 years' experience working with data to solve difficult problems.
Creativity plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between raw data and actionable insights, whether by uncovering hidden patterns or crafting data-driven stories.
Jason is an artist at heart. His innate creativity extends beyond a life of dancing, sculpting, and music, and into his professional work.
It's by working at the intersection of creativity, analytical thinking and strong values that makes Jason stand out from the crowd and an invaluable resource for the for-purpose sector.
Having experience across the whole data lifecycle (the full-stack) means I can tackle any data project without needing to hire or subcontract others to do some of the work. I also bill based on the type of work being conducted in an effort to keep costs low for the for-purpose sector.
The skillsets that are available to you are:
The Business Analyst is the role you will interact with most. Their job is to work with you to understand your business requirements and coodinate the rest of the team. Think of them as the glue that holds the team together.
The Data Architect's job is to design the platform that all the other roles use to do their job. Think of them like you would an architect - they design your office to make sure every team's requirements are met, and the workspace flows effectively.
The Data Engineer is in charge of getting data from source systems into a structure that can be easily accessed by the Data Scientist and Data Analyst. Think of them as a plumber - they get water from a source reservoir into your home, so you don't have to make the trip with a bucket yourself.
The Data Analyst takes data prepared by the Data Engineer and transforms it into something that is accessible and meaningful to the business user. Think of them as a translator - they will translate raw data into information you can action in meaningful ways.
The Data Scientist uses advanced analytical techniques such as statistical analysis and artificial intelligence to solve more complex business problems. Think of them as you would a scientist - they are there to push the boundaries of knowledge.
The Frontend Web Developer takes visuals created by the Data Analyst and makes them accessible to the public on the web. This can be anything from infographics, interative charts to fully-fledged dashboards.
